안녕, 세상!

Hello world!

To those whom I mentioned having a blog before flying over to Korea, my apologies on the late start. It’s been a little over a week since I arrived, and I already feel like I’m slightly behind! Picking a blogging platform, a blog name, deciding on all the details… it’s all a bit much. Especially the name! The details are adjustable, but the URL name is fixed, even though it seems the most important (and simultaneously difficult). So please bear with me if you see things constantly changing, as I am also figuring out the internal bowels and workings of wordpress even as I dabble with the aesthetics of online space.

Now for a few initial warnings/disclaimers:

  1. I am NOT good at blogging aka journaling. Task consistency doesn’t seem to be my strong point, especially for these online-proclaiming-my-whereabouts sort of things. Facebook photos, status updates, twitter quotes, they are all luxuries I certainly enjoy when I come across but personally never felt the inclination to broadcast (or yes, maybe I am just lazy XD;;). There’s still something about the online public realm that has me a bit leery, I suppose, that in combination with finding my footing as to the degree of personal display, how much to share and how much to filter out.
  2. I play around with language a lot. A looot. For the most part, I will probably do my best to stick to proper English spelling and punctuation for the sake of those who may find themselves reading this, but my natural tendency when typing online is to not capitalize, play with words and use a multitude of emoticons (like the XD;; above; Asian ones do not require tilting of head ^_^) for expression. I generally like to type the way I talk (so right now is the polite version), and I save typographical propriety for academic papers and job applications…
  3. My thoughts, however edited. This “year” could be called my “Fulbright Year,” as I am in Korea for approximately 12 months under the generous grant of the Fulbright organization. However, this does not mean that anything written here reflects, represents or is in relation to the views of said entity, and this blog is in no way officially sanctioned by or associated with the Fulbright and its individual agents.

All that said, I will do my best to stay on top of this blog and keep it updated regularly, as much for myself (to have a record) as for anyone who might be interested in reading my entries. And don’t be alarmed if entries become increasingly “informal,” but do let me know if it bothers you and you strongly prefer written language with all the fixings. As mentioned before, I’m still finding my footing on this whole blogging thing! To all who have gotten this far, thank you (always) for reading :)

P.S. Explanation of URL name to come in following post!
P.P.S. This blog will be full of random pictures and ramblings – for posts and translations strictly related to my Fulbright proposal, I will be using this. There may also be some overlap from time to time :X
